I felt so sad watching those pictures. Islam is a death cult, mysoginist, filled with hatred towards women. Where are the Western feminists? It's so obvious that they don't care for women. I'm not entirely sure what it is you want western feminists to do about it. Are they supposed to fly over in bikinis and AK-47s? Where are the feminists? Probably fighting the battles they can win. In countries where women are dismissed as subhuman and covered up to protect the almighty male hormone from going out of control (heaven forbid) there isn't much a feminist could do other than beat her scarfless head against an erect phallus. And they'd only enjoy that. Feminists aren't going to do anything about women who don't stand up for themselves first. In other words, there's nothing to support if all they're going to do is submit and be good little cows to keep from being punished.

JK is right, Miguel. Iran's feminists exist, yet, can you imagine fighting a battle where the retribution is not only disapproval from society, as it might have been when the suffragettes were fighting for American women's right to vote, but DEATH!
And excuuuse me, but not all feminists are as you describe - some are egalitarians, quite simply, wanting no one but the woman to decide for her. Only by feminism becoming part of basic humanism and with both men and women fighting for respect for both genders will problems be lessened. As with democracy, feminism is a lesson learned by the society in which it evolves - or is fought for and won. Good luck, Iran! There will be more hard days to come, I'm afraid...

Do a bit of research into islam, why don't you. Have a read of sura and verse 4.34, which religiously sanctions wife beating on the presumption of disobedience, and then come back and tell us why these women don't do a whole lot to further their lots in life.

It wouldn't have something to do with being seen as having half the worth of a man, and dificient in their intelligence and piety, now, would it?

If you want to do something in your homeland that you can't do in Iran, how about protesting the creeping sharia in your country?

Educate yourself - the sooner islam is recognised for the genocidal and gendercidal cult it is, the better for all of us.

feminists don't say squat about this because, being feminists, they care not about human rights, but about towing the leftist line that it is the west, the Christian west, that is the bad guy in the world, and that all other cultures are merely oppressed. Feminists never denounce the brutal treatment of women in other cultures because that is not what they are about. Feminism as a political movement, is a western leftist movement. The Left goes to bat for islam, for the jihadists, for Iran, for anything and anyone inimical to the west. To understand the motives of the political feminist movement, you must understand the Left. Then you will see why there is complete silence about the brutal treatment of women in muslim countries, and why there is no outcry against creeping Sharia in the west.

PETA is another example of this. You'd think they are dedicated to protecting animals from harm and cruelty, but you'd be wrong. Islam reserves the right to hang animals upside down, cut their throats and let them painfully bleed to death. That is halal meat. Sometimes they take a sheep and bring it into their bathtubs to slaughter to make their own halal meat. Does PETA say a word about this? Does PETA protest the inclusion of halal meat into universities and other institutions? Not a peep.

I am no fan of Islam, nor of Christianity for that matter,infidelicious, but you raise good points. It is a problem. I think the "fifth-columnists in Europe" anxiety is overstated, and there's plenty of proof (mostly amongst European Muslim women) that the contact with the West might be the catalyst for change in the benighted East. That said, I think some European communities have erred in bowing toward the establishment of Sharia courts. Those actions should be rescinded and quickly.

However, violence is really not the answer. There is enough evidence to prove that the CIA/British Intelligence overthrow of a liberal Iranian prime minister in the '50s has a great bearing on Iran's current psychological state. As for the religious and ethnic minorities under attack in the region, let me remind you that under the dreaded secularist Saddam, Chaldean Christians, Assyrian Christains, Yizidi, and various of the lingering Gnostic sects, were left unmolested and allowed to worship in their various ways, and that it was only with the US/UK invasion of Iraq that the hideous jinn of tribalness and religious prejudice was let lose on the land (20 Yizidi were massacred just last week).

Still, one does have to marvel that these various religions, as old as Christianity or older in the case of Zoroastrianism, have survived your "aggressive and expansionist" Islam all of these centuries. You certainly cannot point to a similar situation in pre-modern Christian Europe (I give you the Cathars), other than perhaps the violent disdain that allowed the Jews to continue on as best they could in some squalid corners of Christendom, whereas in Islamic Spain, the Jews were treated very much as equals. My family, by the way, Sephardic Jews, had resided in Spain for god knows how long, until Isabel and Ferdinand and their Inquisition came along. But, that's all blood under the bridge.

I'm a vegetarian, so I find the whole slaughter business, in whatever guise, appalling and barbaric. However, philosophically, I think a person who slaughters their own meat is more honest than some suburbanite who picks up a plastic-wrapped piece of carnage from a supermarket freezer for dinner, without giving a single thought to what they are holding in their hands.

I don't know where anyone thinks Feminism did women an ounce of good in Western culture; I believe Feminism to be an absolute failure across the board.

Feminism only put women to work, when at one time they did not need to. Now, with both men and women working, BOTH have a difficult time making ends meet. Now BOTH men and women have to work like slaves just to get by. Where does the 9 to 5 plus usually a second job equate to freedom?

All feminism did was cause women to feed corporate profit instead of families. I guess money is the ruler of all, after all.

Note this: throughout history the defining difference between free and slave nations is whether or not the women had to work to survive. Free societies, throughout history have always had the men work while the women stayed home.

How does staying home while someone else works to support you equal oppression? Is that not what royalty does?

Feminism was nothing but a mind game that cashed women in.

james; feminism didnt just give women the right to work, it gave them the free will to vote, to have independance and to speak there own mind. it made them equal to men, so that men couldn't make snide comments saying "yeah well im the one who has to work". being a stay at home wife might seem like a life of heaven to you, but im sure after a few years you would get bored. to cook, clean and tidy up after someone all your life, what would be the fucking point. everyone should do it for themsleves. god made us all equal so if women want to work, earn there own money and be successful let them. THEY DONT HAVE TO IF THEY DONT WANT TO! feminism just gave them the choice thats all. basically get over yourself, (1) your a man you have no fucking idea, (2)your making out women are being stupid. and (3) staying at home while someone else works makes you feel Inadequate, you'll feel guilty when buying new things and they can hold it against you, working and earning for yourself gives you freedom and free choice.
