And here is a new catchphrase to add to your political vocabulary. Outpost of Tyranny is quite a mouthful, and seems like the name of a future expansion pack to World of Warcraft, but promising are some of the little looked after countries named. Rice named Cuba, Burma, Zimbabwe, North Korea, Iran, and…. Belarus!
This is one of those rhetorical sentences this is most likely going to be used many times over the next couple of years as the U.S. moves on its foreign policy direction post-Iraq. Best to note is that these are relatively small countries with governments that are not at the high end of power, so causing a democratic stir will be relatively easy. I’m glad to hear that she added Belarus to that list, as the opposition movement there is, at the moment, very fragmented. They can use all the help they can get.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Savinykh had a little something to say:
“False stereotypes and prejudices are a poor basis for the formation of effective policy in the sphere of foreign relations,” Savinykh said. “We are certain that only constructive dialogue, based on common sense and existing realties, will foster the normalization of relations between our countries.”
But we don’t want normalization of relations between the countries. We want them to be as unstable as possible so as to throw the government off balance.
