I changed my “emails” category to “crazy people” to encompass a broader array of posts. And here we have it. I was alerted to the Santiago Times publishing my short little letter to the editor, when I ran across one of the craziest things I have read in recent times:
A LATIN AMERICA FREE FROM THE UNITED STATES
(Feb. 10, 2005)
To the Editor
I have long wondered when the day would come for Latin America to break out of the economic prison built around it by the United States. Today, the United States in its greed for world control is building a prison around Middle Eastern nations that have oil. Perhaps the leaders of countries like Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay need to think of ways to break out of the servitude brought on their countries by the United States.
The first Latin American country to attempt to steer its own course away from the bosses in Washington, D.C., the banking houses of Wall Street, N.Y., and the American corporations located on Park Avenue, N.Y., was rebuffed, and all sorts of sanctions placed on it. Yes. Today the Cuban people are free from U.S. domination, because they no longer want their country run by the United States.
It took a Castro to bring the change in Cuba. What will it take from other Latin American leaders to take the same kind of gamble and take the road to self respect and dignity for their people and countries? Is there not one among you who is man enough to show the Yankees that Latin Americans can do great things for and by themselves, just like Sim????n Bol????var did in his time and other great Latin Americans did after him. Tomorrow belongs to Latin Americans; it is there for the taking. Let no one ever tell you Latin Americans that you are lazy and ignorant, because that is a cop out that does not hold water. You Latin Americans are as smart as any other human beings on the earth, so put your shoulders to the wheel of progress and set yourselves free from the past by taking the first step into the 21st century with pride, dignity and honor.
Sincerely,

Luckily, we live in the Google era, so I typed his name in there. And what do I find? That’s right, a totally unsubstantiated essay that does more to name geographical locations than to point to convincing evidence for his conclusions. What were the conclusions? I’m not sure, but something about the U.S., terrorists, and the two being one and the same.
But that’s not all in this veritable treasure trove of raving lunacy. The man has a website dedicated to American terrorism. Sadly, I did not find any pictures of Yulia Tymoshenko.
