ZIMBABWE’S REVOLUTION

Every revolution is the same quest for the freedom and democracy engraved on every human heart. But each one is unique, too, with different resistance tactics tailored to existing conditions with local ingenuity. In Zimbabwe, people are up against an unusually vile tyrant, one who uses food as a weapon, Robert Mugabe. Since this thug shoots demonstrators, Zimbabweans are actively, if furtively conducting wallpaper-pasted flyer raids around public places, and dumping piles of freebie condoms with the struggle’s name on it. It’s hit-and-run guerrilla stuff to get the word out – in vast quantity. In addition, there is an “election” in that country on March 31. Some of the opposition to Mugabe are taking that seriously.

The New York Times has a very significant article on how that people’s struggle against one of the world’s foulest dictators is emerging – read it here.

UPDATE: The momentum builds – Zimbabwe’s bishop is urging huge street demonstrations with the explicit aim of ousting the thug. Freedom’s winds are blowing.

UPDATE: The Times of London gives us more on the political situation – they say the thug is on his last legs. And Äpeople are beginning to chant ‘Hungry, hungry.’

Time to find some Zimbabwe blogs.

Of all those I have found so far, most have not been updated in many days.

Still, this one, last updated March 7, is awfully good for catching up on the background. Here is History News Network’s informative blog entry.

UPDATE: A blog called Sokwanele – This is Zimbabwe is actively blogging the revolution in Zimbabwe now. Things are moving rapidly there. This one looks really good.

Here is Klanker’s Blog, which has short commentaries on the news. It’s on a South African platform but the topic is all Zimbabwe. This looks pretty good.

Here is a good straight news source from Zimbabwe – The Zimbabwean.

Here is The Zimbabwe Situation, a good news roundup of Zimbabwe stories – it’s got them all.

Here is Oscar J.’s good list of Zimbabwe news sources.

Here is Zimbabwe’s Human Rights NGO Forum page.
