THE HAND OF CHAVEZ?

Two disasters happened this morning in South America.

A slew of bombs went off against U.S. retailers in Buenos Aires, Argentina from a previously unknown ‘revolutionary’ group that’s suddenly got a lot of money for bombs. The bombers made no secret of their anti-American intentions as they hit a Citibank, a Blockbuster and attempted to hit a McDonald’s.

Worse yet, the heritage of Peru was assaulted, with a historic church built in 1604 going up in flames, a fire that doesn’t seem to have any organic origin. Who set it? It looks like somebody did – someone with no respect for the Catholic Church or Peru’s heritage.

Both countries are well-known as areas where Hugo Chavez is active. Chavez is financing rabid leftist groups who engage in these activities. It may just be the work of unrelated local nuts. But timing is everything and somehow we tend to not be wrong if we cast our eyes in Chavez’s direction.

As the OAS meets in Miami to lay down the law about democratic government and governing democratically, what a coincidence that terror attacks appear the countries that are most likely on the fence, trying to make up their minds about the democracy issue. Will they cave like Spain? Or come back swinging?

Do not be intimidated, Argentina and Peru!
