THIS IS HUGE! Iran scored a 1-0 victory against Bahrain, securing a place in the World Cup. And the crowd goes wild, taking advantage of the joyous event to shout against the regime.
Iran erupted in a frenzy of raucous celebrations after the Islamic state booked its place at the 2006 World Cup soccer finals in Germany with a 1-0 home win over Gulf rivals Bahrain on Wednesday. Hundreds of thousands of people poured into the streets of the capital Tehran after the match, filling the night air with volleys of firecrackers, whistles and horns. State media reported similar scenes in cities across the country.
“Hello victory, hello World Cup. Iran is on its way to Germany,” said Mohammad Reza Sadeghi, a shopkeeper in eastern Tehran.
Some took the opportunity to flout the Islamic state’s strict moral codes. Young men and women danced together in the streets and some women briefly took off their headscarves, mandated by law, and waved them in the air.
Such behavior was last witnessed in the soccer-mad country when it qualified for the 1998 World Cup finals in France.
“I wish I could go to Germany to support my team. But they would not issue visas for us. They think we are terrorists,” said Karim, a young man wrapped in an Iranian flag.
A large security operation was deployed and police blocked many main streets to try to prevent traffic snarls as thousands took to their cars to join the celebrations.
But though the mood was mostly joyous rather than tense, there were sporadic clashes between a hardline volunteer militia and revellers in eastern Tehran. A Reuters reporter saw at least three injured young people.
“They were chanting slogans against top officials. Then (the militia) attacked them with wooden sticks,” said Mina, a teenager at the scene.
Regime Change Iran is being blocked in Iran, so I’m going to include an extended entry reproducing a lot of the information so that people in Iran can read everything. I highly recommend you do as well.
Mass celebrations are becoming political. Clashes are starting.
Clashes or sporadic riot style protests are taking place in several provincial cities, such as, Hamedan, Tabriz, Mahabad, Keramshah, Mashad, Rasht, Mian-do-Ab, Abadan, Yazd, Kerman, Ghazvin and Oroomiah (former Rezai-e).
Groups of young are often retaliating to small groups of plainclothes men and Bassij paramilitary force.
Slogans calling for overthrow of the regime and even execution of clerics are shouted, such as, “Toop, Tank, Feshfeshe, Akhoond bayad koshte she” (Guns, Tanks, Cleric must be killed).
Some avenues are looking like war zone as many windows and public materials have been damaged along with regime’s symbols, such as, propaganda materials destroyed.
Several injured have been reported so far and the night will be long.
Most likely, security forces are waiting for later in order to start their massive crackdown but groups of young have planned to defend themselves with Molotov Cocktails and incendiary devices.
Injuries are increasing rapidly, most of them being women. And it isn’t sitting well.
The number of injured is increasing as clashes are taking place in most areas of the Capital and several provincial cities.
Females, often young, are the majority among those brutalized by regime’s plainclothes men and Bassij members.
Acid, Knives, chains or clubs have been used against most of them showing the deep respect of Iranian women by a regime which promotes the systematic Gender Apartheid policy.
In Guisha, Shahrak e Gharb, Gohardasht and Tajrish areas of Tehran several women were seen bleeding from faces or arms. Same kind of brutality have been reported from Mashad and Hamedan.
Many maverick Iranians have been reported as rescuing the wives, mothers, sisters and girl friends who defy the regime’s brutal Islamist agents. Tens of these agents have also been beaten up by exasperated Iranians who feel stronger due to this evening’s collective move.
There’s almost no official symbol or propaganda for the upcoming sham Presidential election which has been left intact by the demonstrators.
In many areas fires are made by demonstrators who shout slogans against the regime and its leadership.
Below are some pictures of the celebrations immediately afterward. Photos of the unrest will follow as soon as he posts them.
