In the email is another fascinating and huge article by Tammy Lynch, which goes into great detail about the current political crisis in Ukraine. Read it in its entirety.
Ukraine-based journalist Peter Byrne doesn’t end on an optimist note, however.
former sbu chief olekandr turchynov has tentatively scheduled a press conference for sept. 15. he is expected to describe yushchenkos reaction to “facts” presented to him by the sbu in july suggesting criminal activities involving russian natural gas traders and yushchenko’s closest advisor, former gas attendant oleksandr tretyakov. the information was ignored. so was another report detailing alleged criminal activities involving the chief of ukraine’s state custom’s committee, who is rumored to have strong ties with former national security and defense secrtary petro poroshenko, ukraine’s chocolate king.
former president leonid kuchma, his son-in-law viktor pinchuk, russian ambassador viktor chernomyrdin, russian president vladimir putin and belarusian dictator oleksandr lukashenko have all weighed in on yushchenko’s side – a sure sign that the hero of the so-called revolution is now in deep and way up the creek.
I can’t help but think that there’s something more to this than political infighting, which is what the press mostly gets at here.
