With parliamentary elections on a few weeks away, and the prospect of a colored revolution on the horizon, the Freedom bloc (comprised of three major parties) is uniting with another opposition party, the National Unity bloc, in order to support each others’ candidates and ensure that the government doesn’t rig the election.
Executives of Azadlig (Freedom) bloc of three main opposition parties and the National Unity bloc have agreed to cooperate at the November parliament elections.
Under the agreement they signed, the two organizations will join efforts at ensuring a democratic and fair election, eliminating irregularities, supporting each other????????s candidates and adhering to a common position on the election results.
The National Unity chairwoman Lala Shovkat Hajiyeva said unification of ???????all opposition blocs would allow avoiding falsification of the elections????????.
Isa Gambar, chairman of major opposition Musavat Party included in Azadlig, said his party is in talks on launching cooperation with the New Policy (YeS) bloc.
The results of the parliamentary elections will be incredibly interesting. Will the opposition win a majority, enough to help propel reform, or will the government totally rig the elections and trigger a revolution? Or is revolution now completely inevitable? The momentum of the opposition parties uniting, along with the huge protests rallies accompanied by government violence, could be a huge indictator of what is to come.
