EVO’S MEDELLIN-BASED SITE

Given that politicians tend to hone to their campaign financiers’ agendas, it’s pretty creepy to see that Evo Morales has gotten a new Web site – financed and hosted, not from his home country, as any self-respecting candidate for president would want, but brazenly from MEDELLIN, COLOMBIA.

Morales, you will recall, is running for president of Bolivia on a legalize-cocaine election platform.UPDATE for Eduardo: Morales SAYS he’s not for legalizing cocaine, only the coca leaf, but there’s no such thing as cocaine without the coca leaf. I think his stance is a ruse. Morales also claimed he was ‘only’ for higher taxes and royalties on energy companies but when his campaign gained power, he called for what we knew he was really after: full Stalinist nationalization. That’s a sign. Morales’ shifting, sliding positions on drugs are easily headed toward the interests of the FARC cocaine trade, as is his opposition to the war on drugs. Cripes, he’s even friends with the FARC! He hangs out with the narcoterrorists’ other two friends: Chavez and Castro! To say he’s not for cocaine is naive. See why in the rest of my answer below.

Obviously, that’s attracted support from some quarters. Medellin, Colombia is about the worst possible place imagewise for drug-dealing’s remnants who are still out there and not in jail where they belong. Such a sponsorship leaves a real impression. But for Morales, this image isn’t a problem, it may even be part of the message. Miguel at MABB has a great bit of investigative reporting on this curious state of affairs with Bolivian presidential frontrunner, Evo Morales, here.
