A Croatian general charged with war crimes has been arrested in Spain, the UN’s chief war crimes prosecutor says.
Ante Gotovina – the third most-wanted suspect from the Balkan wars – was held in the Canary Islands on Wednesday.

Gen Gotovina, 50, is accused over the death of about 150 Serb civilians during a Croatian offensive in 1995.

To be honest, it’s not the dramatic last stand that I imagined from a supposed war criminal, ex-French Foreign Legion and the man who said he’d never surrender. Caught hanging out on the beach at a hotel in Spain. I was expecting him to have a fist-fight to the death with Carla DelPonte on top of a burning cable-car accross a shark infested 500m deep canyon. Instead it’s like:

”Sorry, I ordered a pina colada not handcuffs.”
