Here are some articles about RosUkrEnergo, the middle-man company being used in the gas deal between Russia and the Ukraine, and the particularly shady way it’s involved.
– RFE/RL goes into the history of the company and why it was created. Let’s just say it involved a certain ex-president of Ukraine, a certain current president of Russia, some “unnamed Ukrainian investors,” and millions of dollars shuffled under the table at the top of both governments.
– David McDuff posts several articles dealing with the scandal.
– Abdymok notes that after Tymoshenko’s cabinet was dissolved, and former SBU head Oleksandr Turchynov’s Tymoshenko-driven probe into RosUkrEnergo was crushed by the president, Yushchenko’s allies in the dismissed cabinet pressed for the company to be used in the deal. “Oleksandr Tretyakov and national security and defense council secretary Petro Poroshenko… along with Mykola Martynenko, head of the president????????s Our Ukraine party, lobbied to maintain RosUkrEnergo as an intermediary before (and after) being sacked.” Then, he reminds Ukrainian journalists that the same men who set up the company were mentioned many times in the recordings taken from Kuchma’s office. He then goes on to ask, “who are the several unnamed ukrainian investors?”

– More from me here. It’s wildly apparent that Putin’s boys at Gazprom and Yushchenko’s oligarch supporters stand to make a killing off of this. And they can’t explain why. Stay tuned.
