Venezuela’s bloggers are now under an explicit threat of prosecution from known Chavista agents.
It started with Alek Boyd’s effort to expose the Chavista regime and the post directly below this one provides the background.
Miguel, however, adds a post of much further clarity here.
The short story is: Venezuela’s dictator has issued his first threat against bloggers. The threat his supporters ran in Ultimas Noticias today identifies them as ‘The Anglo-Venezuelan Connection’, presumably because they write in English. Miguel’s blog has been named in this threat. He says they should probably have a tough time shutting him down, given that the blog itself is hosted in the U.S., but that doesn’t halt our worries for him. Dictators everywhere have been moving against bloggers. There is nothing in the brutal Chavez regime that has shown itself to be in any way particularly benevolent or tolerant. This bears watching with great concern.
Miguel’s post is here.
UPDATE: Blogger Daniel in Venezuela, who was also singled out for Chavista threats, has a mocking reply to these boorish Chavista bullies, along with suggestions that they listen to his Voice Of America interview today here.
UPDATE: Welcome Instapundit readers. I have a bit more background on the matter in this earlier post here.
UPDATE: KA at Venezuela-US Topics has additional thoughts here.
UPDATE: Canadian blogger Dust My Broom has good analysis here.
UPDATE: And if you like something more piquant, a new blog, I am, therefore I think, provides that here.
UPDATE: If you can read Spanish, El Nuevo Herald, the Spanish-language partner of the Miami Herald, is already covering the story here.
Hat tip: Venezuela Today (which has a lot of further links about this matter as well as Gustavo Coronel’s columns which have so enraged the chavistas.)
