There’s something kind of creepy I notice once in awhile when I look up which keywords are bringing in traffic at Publius Pundit. Whenever some group of indecent words comes up, like ‘nude, Ugandan, women’ or ‘naked, Iranian, babes’ or ‘Swedish, sex, slaves’ – more often than not, the person doing the search is flagged from some country like Iran, Saudi Arabia or one of the oppressed Gulf states.

What a horrible distinction to be known for!

But much as I like those countries and wish for the best for them, much as I wish democratic revolution on them, I unfortunately know that many of the readers from these countries are really looking for that other stuff.

It’s to their credit that they come here anyway, where they won’t find any. But why were they searching for that base stuff in the first place?

Part of it must be that societies which repress women (and for that matter, men) tend to create conditions that distort the wishes and desires of their young into the most perverse directions. Maybe it’s the virgin-whore thing. But I also know this much: the supposedly decadent Western societies out there that Muslims love to scold don’t love porn nearly to the extent that Arab and repressed Middle Eastern ones do. You can tell just by looking at the keywords and their origins on Publius. So much for virtue. There seems to be far less of at least that kind in supposedly virtuous Muslim societies that repress any sign of femininity, than in those which do not.

Foreign Policy magazine blog has found an item that seems to square with all this anecdotal evidence that we see here at Publius. It has an item showing that Islamofascist terrorists are just wild about pornography.

We know that the 9/11 attackers were. They left their pervert stuff in their crashed airline luggage and their Koran on a barstool in some dive in Florida. Such nice people! /sarcasm

Mike Boyer at the FP blog concludes that there’s no shortage of hypocrisy among terrorists. Which is true. What I wonder is how many of the porn-seekers are Islamofascist and how many of them are just repressed schmucks who cannot get a date on Saturday night due to all the virtue regulations? Is it the puritanicalness of the Islamic societies that creates this taste for porn? Or is it that porn, which objectifies women and is ultimately violent, by its very emptiness and tendency to incite base instincts, is something that creates conditions for terrorism?
