This is the question many would ask themselves after reading the news of a new terror attack against Italian troops. This time the fact occurred in Afghanistan.

Just a few weeks after the attack on the Carabinieri in Iraq, that killed 3 of them, now it’s the turn of the Italian soldiers in Afghanistan.

The new Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi announced that its weak government would withdraw the troops out of Iraq as soon as possible.
Terrorists may have thought that by hitting Italy in Afghanistan as well, Prodi might be easily convinced to withdraw the troops from there too. After all, they know very well about the Italian politics. They have links and ties to cells in Italy, as well as with communist groups.

They know that Prodi could well play the Zapatero.

Yet, once again, it’s the Italian soldiers who pay the price of their politicians’ cowardice. It is good to remind that the Italians in Afghanistan and Iraq are proud of their mission; it’s in their own blood. They strongly believe that they’re serving the “Patria” ( Homeland).
