As I have written before, dinner table talk in Venezuela is ‘who got shot, who got kidnapped, who got murdered, when do we emigrate.’ That’s normal everyday conversation, every single day at every single dinner table in Venezuela.
It’s that bad.
You can imagine what the barbershop talk is like! One Venezuelan barber in the Petare slum of Caracas, having heard enough stories from his customers, decided to write them down, act them out, and film them. He didn’t have any actors, all he had was ketchup for blood, flour for cocaine and his buddies for actors. His big Hollywood movie budget: $100.
They acted it out, and the film became the hottest movie on the streets of Caracas. Since it’s pirate city, I don’t know how much money he made, but he got a point across: Crime is out of control in Venezuela and it’s the biggest thing on people’s minds. This is what could topple Hugo Chavez.
Alfredo at Tyromaniac has the story and the links here.
