So goes the apocryphal “chutzpah” story of the man who was put on trial for killing his parents and asked the judge to show him some mercy for being an orphan.
Such also is the world of Chavistas who get caught with their hands in the till.
Francisco Toro at Caracas Chronicles has a short “stomach turner” on a local Chavista official, who ripped off the state coffers bigtime, and then after he was caught, started hollering political persecution – using the very language of political dissidents.
Francisco says this is not only infuriating but downright dangerous for the real dissidents out there. He writes:
What’s galls me is the way kleptochavistas who, exceptionally, get into trouble immediately turn around and cynically co-opt the language used by the scores of real victims of chavista political persecution. Nevermind that the guy is STILL the top bureaucrat in the Carabobo State Government – nevermind that he’s never been tried, or even indicted, or even faced more than parliamentary censure. Nevermind that he’s still living high on the hog off the money he embezzled. Barf.
