The French team accomplished a beautiful victory against the Portuguese team today, putting it in the World Cup final match versus Italy on July 9. The French took it very well and were out celebrating the penalty-kick victory match in the streets of Paris. It sure beats burning Citroens and kicking in shop windows, no?

Maybe the game did not entirely have a satisfactory endimg but it was a fine thing for France, because their team had been so underestimated, so dismissed as ‘all washed up’ and so full of surprises. It’s also a fine thing because the French need cheering up after all the self-induced miseries of socialism they’ve been through this past year – riots, thugs, Islamofascists, Bauhaus hopelessness. A shot of national confidence, even if temporary, can’t be a bad thing for France. Of course, I won’t say anything about this to Stefania, who’s got firmly placed other views about who should win this match. But it must be weird for her, being in Sardinia, right on the edge of France and Italy, to watch this thing from the middle. May the best team win!
