I am writing this piece in response to the many allegations circulating in the Web regarding the Zidane-Materazzi case.
One version has already been told, so I want the readers to read the other, too.
There is an ongoing inquiry opened by the FIFA to find out what has really happened betwen the two players.
In my opinion, everyone of us should refrain from expressing summary claims without having any proof. So far, the proof we have is that Zidane has committed a vile act of violence by head-butting a rival player.
False claims have circulated according to which Materazzi would have said “you dirty terrorist” to Zidane. The claim, soon dismissed by the French player himself, was enough for some Islamist websites’ commenters to launch death threats against Materazzi.
Something similar to the Danish cartoons affair.
Well, now we learn that Materazzi would have insulted Zidane’s mother and sister. It’s the player himself who said this, even as he has not shown any proof of his claims. Worst of all, Zidane has not even apologized for that head-butt, which could have killed Materazzi. To add insult to injurty, Zidane has said he is not sorry.
This is enough for the Italians to start despising him.
As if all that was not far enough, French defender, Gallas, told to the Sun: “Yes, I would beat up Materazzi if I am face to face with him. You know, sometimes, when you’re provoked, you would kill that person”.
Again, Gallas himself admits he has not proofs of Zidane’s claims. Thus, his statements should be punished because they incite to violence.
Insults are common in soccer. If Zidane’s claims were true, the reaction should have been to call the referee and yellow-card Materazzi.
I don’t believe that Materazzi insulted Zidane’s mother, as Materazzi’s mother has died so he is not one of those who insults a mother.
However, let the FIFA investigate the case. I expect that, given that proofs can be seen everywhere, Zidane loses his Golden Ball that of course he has not deserved after his violent act.
If Materazzi is also found guilty, he will be punished accordingly.
Let’s not forget that Zidane was not new to this sort of reactions in the soccer field. Below is a photo showing him head-butting another player, when he played in Juventus.

Having said that, now you’re free to judge. It’s important that one knows all the versions of the story.
