ORIANA REMEMBERED

The death of great Italian journalist continues to reverberate, oddly intersecting the entry of the pope into the struggle against Islamofascism, and some great essays have been written about her and her legacy. I’ve been really moved by them and present a small roundup of the best of this writing:

Victor Davis Hanson has a collection of resonant thoughts in a short informal essay, describing his sorrow at her death and why it has hit us all more deeply in this age of terror and Islamofascism. This is one I read several times. It can be read on Pajamas Media here.

Tunku Varadarajan at Wall Street Journal has a personal account of being Oriana’s editor – describing the difficulty working with her, her contrasting little kindnesses, and her real significance and contributions as a writer. It’s a fascinating glimpse of her here.

Allegra at The Anchoress has a beautiful essay describing the narrative details of Fallaci’s career, including her curiously close relationship to Pope Benedict’s works, and the fact that she was a woman of the left and an atheist. Allegra also has an important Pope events roundup with everything about the issue from around the world here.

Michael Ledeen has an essay I have not read but am sure is good and plan to read in this Pajamas Media post here.

Stefania at Free Thoughts has scoured the Italian press for photos and videos and has lots of links to them in this post here.
