America is the strongest single country in the world, and in this position it has made many enemies of those who oppose such things as democracy and the free market. Kim Jong-il, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and Hugo Chavez, just to name a few. But these three especially are bent on the destruction or obsolescence America itself as well as what it stands for. It stands to reason then that such people would do anything possible to make this happen; from building nuclear weapons to clearly subverting American elections.
Hugo Chavez is exactly the kind of man that would do such a thing.
On October 29, Instapundit reported that the federal government was conducting an investigation into the Smartmatic Corporation, the company that set up and ran the e-voting machines during Venezuela’s fraudulent parliamentary elections last December. The small firm, having made so much money off of Chavez (and allowing a government official to sit on its board), decided to purchase California-based Sequoia Voting Systems. This company is now providing most of the e-voting machines throughout California, and many throughout the rest of the country as well.
There is an old article on V-Crisis which connects all the dots between Smartmatic, Sequoia, European proxy investors, and the Hugo Chavez regime. The federal government’s work is all done for it in this one brilliantly researched piece. There is absolutely no denying that Sequoia is linked to Chavez, and that he does in fact have influence over the operations of the firm.
But would Chavez try to defraud the public of its right to elect its leaders? Or in the least cause election chaos? Of course he would. In order to see just what he wants to happen in the United States, one must review recent history of what has happened in Venezuela with regards to Smartmatic. Here is the story of Leopoldo Gonzalez:
1.-Leopoldo Gonz????lez didn????????t have sophisticated equipment or financing from foreign sources, or an army of men at his disposal. Rather ???????? with a small team ???????? he decided to do what SUMATE hadn????????t done with its technology, or the parties with their organization, or Tulio with his report, or Oswaldo Alvarez Paz with his call for activating Clause 350 of the Constitution. Leopoldo researched. Quietly and with a clear sense of purpose, which was none other than to wrench the secret from the machines, he installed in his computer a program downloaded, for free, from the Internet and went about revealing and proving the real perversion so that now irrefutable evidence finally exists that the secrecy of the vote can be violated….
2.-At the simulation, after each observer voted, Leopoldo ran the program and would say out loud: ???????Mr. Jones you voted for???????.??????? ???????? and he would say the name, ???????Mr. Smith you voted for that candidate.??????? When he got to the fifth voter it was the Smartmatic technicians who asked to stop the demonstration. Everyone signed the report that was prepared without reservations or observations. I saw it happen.
The Smartmatic machines are well-known to have been used for fraud in Venezuela, and the fact is that they are still so badly made that one must think just how far the rabbit hole goes. VoteTrustUSA has an entire page of stories related to Smartmatic / Sequoia which details news stories about problems related to the machines; the latest being about a button on the back of the machine which allows people to vote as many times as they want.
Venezuela is one thing, and America is another, for sure. Chavez doesn’t have direct control over American territory. However, what he does have is influence over a company that produced a huge amount of the e-voting machines currently being used here. He has tried to buy the support of the American poor by offering them discounted oil, why not undermine the entire electoral process all together?
The problems with e-voting — from database manipulation to software glitches to the lack of a paper trail — leaves American democracy at risk. Add to that witch’s brew the possibility of direct meddling by a declared enemy of our country and you have a problem. At this point, I would not worry about either major party trying to use the machines for fraud. Instead, I would worry about the Venezuelan government trying to cause chaos unsurpassed by long lines and screen malfunctions. Isn’t this what Chavez wants?
