Alan Garcia, out to break Hugo Chavez
Source: Libardo Buitrago
Meet Hugo Chavez’s worst nightmare: President Alan Garcia of Peru, who blasted Hugo Chavez as a thug, meddler, briber and intimidator yet again, in an interview with a big Venezuelan newspaper, El Universal.

The nightmare Hugo Chavez didn’t foresee: Alan Garcia of Peru

Garcia, as we all know, is no poodle of George Bush. In fact, he’s a leftist in his own right, a nationalist – as in wanting Peru to be sovereign from all foreign interference – and once gave Ronald Reagan all kinds of trouble. Today, he’s taken his formidable energy and silver tongue for rhetoric and drawn a bead on the real menace of our hemisphere, Venezuelan autocrat Hugo Chavez. He blew him away:
Chavez “exercises power with a club or bag of money, blackmail and seduction.”
Hugo never expected this. Alan Garcia is his worst nightmare and not only not going away but getting worse.
Garcia’s a leader whose whole nation hates Chavez, who has no ties to Bush, who knows how the world works, and who is not only completely unafraid of Chavez, but more than willing to confront him.
Where the hell did that nightmare blow in from? It started with Chavez’s campaign meddling in Peru, where Alan Garcia condemned his interference and said Peru wasn’t there to be Chavez’s viceroy. The guy knows how to use language. That set off a shouting match, and Alan Garcia wasn’t hesitant to point out that Hugo Chavez had a known history of wife-beating. After that, he soared in the polls and Peruvians were energized to draw the ugliest, funniest Hugo Chavez cartoons themselves. His anti-Chavez campaign won him the election decisively. But it didn’t stop at the campaign, though. Last week, Garcia met with Lula and Lula said he’d try to mediate between Garcia and Chavez. Garcia offered him a different thought: He’d help Lula get out of the tether of Chavez’s minime, Evo Morales, supplying Brazil with the natural gas and hydropower it needs so that it wouldn’t need to depend on Chavez and Bolivia. Does that sound like someone who wants to ‘just get along’ with Chavez? It sounds like someone who wants to cut Chavez off at the knees, waging very effective economic warfare at Hugo Chavez by cutting the leverage he has with Brazil.
Net result: the blast at Chavez we hear out of Garcia today.
Along with this wonderful echo blast from his foreign minister. Miguel at Devil’s Excrement captured it here:
As the Peruvian Foreign Minister said today of the Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro, it all has the arrogant and overbearing stink of the nouveau rich.
It’s like a massive burst of energy is coming out of the Inca empire of the sun and it’s lasering down on Hugo Chavez, the fraud caudillo from overseas with the preachy big mouth full of lousy advice that Indian civilizations know all too well and have always loathed.
For once, we are not alone in America in opposing Hugo Chavez. Alan Garcia and Peru are bringing up the southern flank and will stop at nothing to ruin that thug. They intend to take out the trash. No longer will Chavez be able to claim leadership of a continent, of a movement, or of anything. Garcia called his bluff, blasted him, and stood up for the real democratic sentiment in our hemisphere. He knows a dictator when he sees one.
The guy’s kickass. The U.S. should give Alan Garcia anything he wants.

Getting ready to chop Hugo Chavez into ham!
