Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez this week threatened to blow up all of Venezuela’s oil wells, should the perfidious yanquis be so insolent as to attack. He does this partly to whip up paranoia in the shantytowns, but generally, even his own supporters are not fooled. The other reason he does it is to whip up fear in the international oil markets and thus drive up the price for his ever-diminishing oil production. We always knew there was something wrong with Prime Minister Luis Rodriguez Zapatero and today that missing link got just a little bit more primal. Earlier A.M. Mora y Leon had a post detailing a badly-done and horribly misguided photoshop of brave Iranian women into mindless shells of the Code Pink cult. When Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was captured by U.S. troops and handed over to Iraqi democracy to face justice, just about every Western ambulance-chasing lawyer on the left leapt to his defense. They were a seasoned lot, having one way or another defended every tyrant they knew, some from the days of Daniel Ortega in Marxist Nicaragua, and some from even earlier, as in the days of Vietnam or Stalin’s USSR. As ‘The World’ —- otherwise known to us as self-centered eurotrash — solemnly intones about the depredations of the U.S. over the Saddam underwear photos and the importance of eradicating the US from the earth — by UN vote of course, or better still, EU bureaucratic fiat from Brussels —- Tim Blair advises us that there’s a very different reaction on the ‘Arab Street’ which ‘The World’ fully informs us it speaks for since it understands it so much better than us unsophisticated cowboys do.
