Blogging the democratic revolution
Abdymok has a map of the governor appointment in Ukraine.
Terry Rogers posts an interview with Yury Yekhanurov, chairman of the parliamentary committee on industry and entrepreneurship, about developing small and medium sized businesses. ???????Will small business develop in the current police state system? My neighbors, who work at a market, have to pay kickbacks to the police and the tax people, on top of…
I wrote my senator, John McCain, about this around a month ago. Here are the results: The United States promised to cancel the Jackson-Vanik amendment for Ukraine, give Ukraine market economy status, and support Ukraine????????s entry into the WTO, a U.S. congressional delegation including Hillary Clinton and John McCain assured Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko…
Donetsk is a highly Russian region in eastern Ukraine that was the home of whatever opposition Yanukovich could muster toward Yushchenko’s ascendency. Today, Yuschenko went over there to open dialogue about the corrupt mining industry and spur reforms to further the economy. Terry Rogers has the transcript. Here is the story.
Aussiegirl posts a writeup by BonnieBlueFlag, who has been informed that Yushchenko is coming to America and will be partying it up with the political and media elite. Well, I have an excellent source (Cindy Adams, NYP), who tells us today that Viktor Yushchenko, President of Ukraine, is planning a March visit to the U.S….
David McDuff is reporting: Feb 02 – Estonian European MP Toomas Hendrik Ilves, the first Vice-Chairman of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, together with four colleagues nominated Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko and the Ukrainian people for the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize. Their letter to the Nobel Foundation says that the orange revolution in Ukraine…
Check this out! Not only is the redesign cool, but now there are many new features. You can create an account at Maidan which will allow you to post comments. But that’s not all… it also allows you to create a blog. While that may not be useful to those of us who already have…
Discoshaman is back with another Ukraine update for today. New government policies, evil party disintegration, and the possiblity of a PORA political party. Interesting indeed!
Dan McMinn from Orange Ukraine weighs in with his thoughts on the cabinet appointments, especially the none-Our Ukraine ones.
Maidan is reporting staunch French opposition to the inclusion of Ukraine to the EU, despite approval by others. Poland, Germany, and France, with Lithuanian participation, are conducting intensive discussions, having received something more than cooperation within the framework of neighbourhood policy from the European Union. As reported by ProEuropa, based upon the Polish Gazeta.Pl., “the…
David McDuff posts an interview dealing with the culture clashes of eastern Europe and “Old Europe.” Here’s the excerpt: The notion that Ukraine or its new president-elect are now the darlings of the EU is almost laughable. The EU would have completely ignored this crisis had it not been for the new accession states–Poland and…
I was starting to run out of things to post (just look below this one), but luckily, Discoshaman has made his Ukraine update for 02/06. Lots of stuff in there relevant to the new political situation.
After a day or two of silent waiting, pacing, and sweating it out… I am pleased to see another Ukraine update from Discoshaman! UPDATE: It looks like they might know who poisoned Yushchenko! Newly-appointed Minister of Internal Affairs Yuriy Lutsenko believes that the solution to the crime against Viktor Yushchenko is “totally attainable.” “We know…
Neeka has got some great photos over at her blog of people standing in support of Yulia. They’ve got snow all over them; just imagine them doing that for nearly two months!
Yulia is a very popular woman today. Look at the last 20 search results that referred people here: 03 Feb, Thu, 14:58:00 Google: Publius Pundit 03 Feb, Thu, 15:40:36 Google: gyanendra dictator 04 Feb, Fri, 00:45:27 Google: Yulia Tymoshenko nude 04 Feb, Fri, 07:15:43 Google: tymoshenko pictures 04 Feb, Fri, 09:13:26 Google: ali shukri 04…
This whole sleep thing made me miss the initial announcement. But yesterday, she was overwhelmingly elected to the spot, which definitely bodes well for her: (AP/Sergei Grits) KYIV, Ukraine (AP) – Parliament unanimously approved fiery opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko as prime minister Friday, along with her government’s new program to raise living standards, tackle corruption…
According to Dan McMinn, the pro-Yanukovich easterners are growing rather apathetic now. Don’t be fooled, this is great news. Before the election these people were calling Yushchenko a fascist and vowing to revolt. John over at www.postmodernclog.com has made a point to talk about how Yanukoyvch’s “opposition” has subsided into inactivity. Neeka of Neeka’s backlog…
Kirk Sowell has two interesting posts that you need to read. The first one discusses the prospects of Ukraine membership to the EU, and why Turkey should be left out. Make sure to read the comments on it, especially the one by aussiegirl. The second post is in response to the comments.
Vitrenko, leader of the PSPU (“progressive socialists”), just announced that they will attempt to impeach Yushchenko by collecting signatures: According to her, Yushchenko was elected with the serious violations of the law and of European democratic standards, and thus he does not have a moral right to be a President. To speed the things up,…
Via INBB, it looks like Tymoshenko is actually wiping the slate clean. No previous cabinet members or regional administers will keep their positions, and she has already tapped those that she wants for the positions. KYIV. Feb 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) – None of the members of the previous Ukrainian Cabinet of ministers or heads of regional…
Discoshaman has his Ukraine update for 02/02. Yulia’s gaining steam, and the new opposition, well, isn’t really there yet.
Discoshaman already has his first Ukraine update for February up! And things are looking bright for Tymoshenko.
Discoshaman has his Ukraine update for 01/31. Read the rest too, he has some interesting thoughts going around. UPDATE: David Geisen has one too.
Dan McMinn has two good articles up well worth reading. The first is on Yushchenko’s legacy and the other is a historical profile on Kuchma.
I hadn’t mentioned it yet give the situation in Iraq, but Yushchenko and Saakashvili were nominated by Senators McCain and Clinton for the Nobel Peace Prize. I got the info via: Blog de Connard. I found it pretty interesting though, since McCain is my senator. I checked out his website and… sure enough. I thought…
