Mugabe to Africa (and his people): Drop Dead!
Bloomberg reports that Robert Mugabe has rejected a call for reform from his African neighbors:
Zimbabwe's Justice Minister Patrick Chinamasa dismissed calls for an overhaul of the way the country is governed as southern African leaders gathered to discuss its mounting economic and political crisis. "There are no political reforms necessary in my country," Chinamasa told reporters before the Southern African Development Community heads-of-state summit in Lusaka, Zambia, today. "We are a democracy like any other democracy in the world. We have a most efficient electoral system. I can't see how a system can be more transparent or any fairer."
Meanwhile, two Zimbaweans were killed in a riot over sugar, as the country grows increasingly unable to meet the basic food needs of its population.
In an interesting move, the government of Australia has decided to deport eight students who are members of the "families" that constitutute Mugabe's ruling cabal.
