The Students of Venezuela, Roaring Like Lions

Filed under: Protest Babes ~ Venezuela

Writing in the International Herald Tribune Enrique Krauze, a Mexican historian, editor of the magazine Letras Libres and author of Mexico: Biography of Power states that "if President Hugo Chavez dreams of turning Venezuela into a Cuba with oil, the Venezuelans who oppose him have discovered the perfect antidote: the student movement." He concludes his scintillating and incisive essay by asking: "Can they remain united?" He answers: "Their enemy is formidable, and the chances of a violent or even tragic conclusion are very likely. But against the Chavez slogan, 'Socialism or Death,' they have their own: 'Liberty and Life.' In the battle of words they might have the upper hand. Perhaps they can take hope from a line by the Mexican poet-diplomat Octavio Paz: 'We must give back transparency to words.'"

Yeh, so what? How many niave student activists does this represent ?
These kids just miss their tv station.
That,
"By some estimates, around 120,000 of Venezuela's university students have become politically active since May, when the government closed the nation's oldest television station, a step toward complete nationalization of the media.".

La Russophobe says:

Compare that to Russia! The number there is 0.0.

You should surf the net, and you will see pictures with the streets full of students risking their lives to protest against Chavez. Have you ever walked the streets under a crazed dictator? If not, walk in their shoes first for a mile, my friend, and you may sing a different tune.

We lost not only a TV station. We realized that Chavez criteria was more than enough to simple shut down a voice, he never made such a radical move before so I don't think its fair to underestimate what the clossure of RCTV means. A year before the RCTV events the students protested against the insecurity, they just didn't got enough media coverage and not all universities joined. Our goal has always being the same, and goes beyond RCTV or crime (in fact neither RCTV or the "CIA" pay us for protest :) ): the fight over the things that affect us directly such as the lack of civil rights and the hate between the two main political sides. You can call this naive, hope you never find yourself in a similar situation.

Artfldgr says:

The students were moblized to create chavez, now they are mobilized to do what? if history is any guage, the purpose of this is to find out who the student leaders are to secure state monopoly on power. (same monopoly idea is why productivity stops. they make cars, no one else can make cars, if someone else does, then they are no longer government)

anyone here care to mention what happened to the students at tianemen?

students are used to destabilize... its what started the US slide... its what created lots of them all over. this state knows that, and knows that the students have to be slienced. the student leaders are to be found out. in order to do that, you let it appear like they are allowed to do this. guard comes down, and then they tighten it up again.
